Falcon XR6 GT35 Barra Turbo Problems & Upgrades

xr6-falcon-gt3582r-barra-turbo-problems-upgrades

Buying or have a Falcon XR6 GT35 Barra Turbo?

The earliest XR6 Falcons are now over 20 years old.
As such, you may want to check out the turbocharger as a priority on these older XR6 Falcons.
And unless it’s already had a replacement turbo, the original, OEM GT35 Garrett turbocharger, is going to be a bit tired.

Aside from the general age / wear-and-tear factor, if the turbo lasted that long, it’s likely the car has been serviced religiously.
This is a good thing.
Especially as the BA-BF Ford barra engine turbo often fails, due to lack of oil lubrication.
The problem is usually caused by the filter or oil restrictor in the oil feed pipe, becoming fouled by dirty oil.
This slows or completely blocks oil flow into the turbocharger CHRA, causing bearing failure and shaft seizure.
Obviously the same goes if you are looking for a replacement Ford barra engine for sale.

And regular engine servicing (oil & filter changes, as well as Turbocharger Oil Feed Filter), go a long way to mitigate this problem.

Replacement with a XR6 Barra Turbo Upgrade

However, with used vehicles of this age, it’s often hard to ascertain service and maintenance history.
So if there is any sign of turbocharger wear (noise / leaking oil / blowing smoke), then replacement is recommended.

We see a lot of these issues in our business, TurbochargersPlus.
And we always advise replacing the old Garrett Turbo and oil feed line, if a turbo is showing signs of wear.
Our after-market replacements save you tons, and can give you even more power and performance than the original Garrett Turbocharger.
So, if you are looking to do a Barra Turbo Upgrade, our Stage 2 Dual Ceramic Billet Upgrade Turbocharger, will provide much more power, and help smooth the initial turbo lag the XR6 is know for.
And our replacement Oil Feed Line with integrated Oil Filter, makes Turbo Oil Filter cleaning during engine servicing, much easier.
