1KD-FTV Turbocharger Actuator Stepper Motor Problems & Solutions

1KD-FTV Turbocharger Actuator Stepper Motor Problems

Best Turbocharger Stepper Motor Replacement Solution

The 1KDFTV D-4D Diesel runs a turbocharger with variable vanes (VNT Technology) that are electronically actuated.

toyota-hilux-hiace-d4d-1kd-turbo-actuator-stepper-problems-solutions

Instead of a dump valve and pneumatic wastegate control via actuator, there is an Electronic Stepper Motor / Actuator attached to the side of the turbo.
This ‘motor’ controls boost by changing the angle of vanes inside the turbo.
It is a separate component to the turbocharger itself, so can be replaced independently.
This makes the Turbocharger Actuator Stepper Motor problems easier to deal with.
Because if it’s just the stepper or turbo at fault, you can just replace the faulty part.

A quick check: Actuator Stepper Motor Problems:

For component fault-finding, look for a physical problem with the turbocharger.
It could be excessive movement in the compressor / impeller wheel indicating wear(usually with a squealing noise), or leaking oil.
Additionally, the vehicle’s computer invoke force limp mode, and the engine warning light will illuminate.
If so, you may find you the engine will not rev above 1500 rpm.
Or if there is a more general boost problem, it may be a fault with the Turbocharger Actuator Stepper Motor only.

In such circumstances, have the ECU scanned, and look for a fault code associated with the Actuator.
You might end up with a code similar to this: P1251(34)-Turbo stepper motor circuit(intermittent).

If so, you will be better off replacing just the component that is faulting.
So if it’s just a 1KD-FTV Turbocharger Actuator Stepper Motor problem, why pay for an entire new turbo?
A better solution is to just replace the Stepper Motor Actuator, with no need to remove the entire turbocharger unit.

Turbocharger Actuator Stepper Motor Replacement:

Do you currently have problems similar to those above, and/or have a fault code indicating a problem with the stepper motor actuator?

We have very cost-effective, aftermarket replacements suitable for 1KD-FTV Turbochargers.
Our Actuator Stepper Motors come with a 36 Month Warranty.
